One advantage of the use of a phase plug in a midbass horn is that it will beam less at higher frequenzies than a horn without phase plug. If the phase plug is designed for the specific horn and driver it will help "steer" the HF.

Again, I do not agree with all notion of Rubber sound that Haralanov seeded. I can not speak what was in the situation that “be” described and 400Hz crossover. I do have the 8” version of 25W driver (I think it is 21W) and my feeling that it sou...

Hi all
The WE 555 is IMHO an interesting driver, made for a very spesific use,
which is driving a "full-range" horn in the theatre.
As we all know, the wide range system with Jensen 18"woofers and Bostwick tweeter came later, at first the 555 an...
Unfortunately that will never happen......
Yes, Jan. A agree that this would never happen, and particularly looking at the direction where the industry heading. It “might” take place among the direct radiators – still...

ltsv38, it is an interesting solution for lower midrange horn. If I use something like this for Macondo ‘s fundamental channel (but of cause spherical) then I would flip the horn with driver up and run the neck longer to accommodate a slower, expone...

"Sadurni Acoustics' Staccato 4-way hornspeaker exploits MDF horns with up to 3" wall thickness. The 92cm lower midrange horn which loads a cone driver can "achieve 100Hz in-room". The actual 'turbine-horn' midrange driver is a compression sort. "The ...

We understand that Charlus’ selection of drivers are not a selection yet but some kind of very preliminary idea of the drivers that he feels like he like. I said “he feels like he like” not accidently. I do not think Charlus, or anybody else in h...

Last time we wrote you thought I should focus less on tweeters and more on midbass.I am not done yet, but I have found a very nice midbass solution. Somewhat unorthodox, maybe.I have come to love police sirens! Without having A/B compared it to a pai...

Hi thereFor some time its bugging me that compression drivers got a very heavy but odd load of air coupling on the membrane. I saw a scatch here to put ideally 2 Horns on each side of the driveway to balance it. That's obviously not so economically :...

Yes, the tamed beast is an oxi-moron. I thought of my 808s as ragged, rough (grainy) and spitty, while the S2 was also ragged/uneven, but the roughness was more like the sound of a metal zipper. Anyway, I never heard either of these stock drivers m...

Ok, since you people stop to drop the euphoric saliva around the Goto subject I think it would be worth to outline my interest in Goto. Not only worth but I kind of feel an obligation. I feel that my site surprisingly has become a resource that ...

Hello,This is my first post to this site, which I have been absorbing for over a year.A horn project that I have been considering would include either a 1 inch or 1.5 inch throat compression driver into a Tractrix profile horn of which I have not yet...

Herman, horn dimensions does not described by size of driver but only size of throat. It will be absolutely nothing changed in the horn dimensions if you go from between 10" and 12" driver. Sure you would need a bit larger back side of the horn to ac...

I was there and heard it a while and then came back the next day to see if what I heard was true... it was.I talked with Allen Sides who was there showing his speakers and having a good time. It is a 3 way speaker, It has a 1" JBL compression driver...
It seems that I do agree with you about the sound of compression driver midbass.. at least from what I have heard in my own room.. I have heard the big ALE drivers you mention on a bent steel horn similar to what ALE bu...

My first impressions a about the “differences” of field-coiled derived form the time when I ran the Telefunkens war time drivers but at that time I had no reference how the same driver would act with permanent magnet. Also, the Telefunkens are the re...

The target range is 40Hz to 400Hz. One JBL 2206H 12" drive (an alternative configuration is with two [2] 2206H drivers). Exponential. Interesting that you mention a J horn, and that the same could be achieved by two horns (as oppose...

I am currently planning high-WAF speakers for my sister which have to stand in the corners on the floor. Asking for small corner horns I was told the EV Baronet could be a solution. Simulating it with roughly estimated dimensions I found that the FR ...

Robin, of course I meant to say above that the Heils are equivocal when pressed, and no reason for me to think a compression chamber mosh with another driver would improve this quality; but I am just guessing. It would certainly be interesting i...

is the compression driver problem not solved by using multiple drivers all feeding into the same, relatively large throat, eg four 2.5 inch drivers into a 5 inch throat? The idea is that sensitivity to reactance will be much less at lower excursions,...

I pulled a mono set of these exact looking horns out of a movie theater they were installed in 1946 :)the system consisted of 2 of these bass cabs and one gigantic dual compression driver horn on top for the entire theaterI am no horn guy and looking...

I take it back, 100Hz is pushing it regarding horns and compression drivers I know of. I can't imagine a compression driver reaching the midbass muscle of the Fane S 8M. And I don't see why one should try, when the Fane reaches 120Hz so effortlessly....

Herman,Im sure you are right about what you are saying and it makes perfect sense. In the Valencia though, the 416 was crossed over at 800Hz to an even smaller(1") compression driver and to me it sounded really good. The reason I chose a 15" in the f...
